The Mojave desert surrounds Las Vegas and extends almost all the way to Los Angeles. Even though most visitors to Las Vegas are interested in gambling, restaurants and shows, there is a beautiful natural world just outside the city limits. The Mojave desert is named after the Mojave Indians who met explorer Father Francis Garces in 1776 after he successfully crossed the Mojave desert. Mojave tribal peoples were concentrated along the Colorado River and the Mojave trail was their main trading route. Other intrepid explorers would follow Garces, including Jedediah Smith in 1826 and John Fremont in 1844.
I decided to do a little night photography with my new camera, the Lumix G5, just to try out the different filters and test the video at night. Las Vegas really comes alive at night, the neon lights and glitz all looks better under the cloak of darkness. Most of the shots are around the Bellagio Hotel and Casino lake which has a beautiful water fountain show at night. I recorded four videos of the water show and a few night shots of Las Vegas.
Whenever my friends visit Las Vegas, they want recommendations on local restaurants, so I thought I would include four of my favorite Italian restaurants in Las Vegas. Of course you can find many more, but we thought this list would be a start.
